UTB is a French company, founded in 1933, specializing in finishing work. With 1,300 employees, including 800 workers on various construction and renovation sites throughout France, UTB faces significant challenges in terms of human resources management. The building and civil engineering sector in which it operates is faced with a shortage of skilled labour, frequent weather contingencies and, in many cases, limited IT access for workers in the field.
These factors complicate vacation, absence and recruitment management, making HR processes particularly complex and time-consuming. UTB realized that it was essential to modernize its HR management practices to respond effectively to the demands of the construction industry and maintain a fluid, efficient organization. Digitizing HR processes became a necessity to improve responsiveness, accuracy and overall management of human resources within the company.
UTB’s Specific Needs
In 2021, UTB set out to modernize its HR processes in order to improve the company’s efficiency and offer better service to its employees. The main objective was to digitize and centralize HR processes, including administration, recruitment and time management. UTB was looking for a comprehensive and flexible solution, capable of integrating with its existing payroll system and responding to the specific constraints of the construction sector. The company also wanted to professionalize its HR department to better manage employee requests and provide them with a better user experience.
Pierre BASDEVANT, Head of Human Resources at UTB, explains: “We were looking for a single tool to manage all our HR processes, which would both improve service to employees and facilitate the work of HR departments.”
The Solution Selected by UTB
After a call for tenders including four software publishers, UTB chose the SIGMA-HR solution. This solution stood out for its comprehensiveness and its ability to meet the specific needs of the building and civil engineering sector, in particular the management of vacation, absences, workplace accidents, medical examinations, as well as the particularities linked to bad weather and paid leave shared with the Caisse de Congés Payés du BTP (CIBTP). The trusting relationship established with SIGMA-HR’s sales and project teams, renowned for their availability and professionalism, was also a decisive factor.
“The relationship of trust established with the project and sales teams during the project phase was decisive in our choice of SIGMA-HR’s HCM solution.”
Pierre Basdevant Head of Human Resources at UTBThe Results Provided by SIGMA-HR
Thanks to SIGMA-HR, UTB has simplified and centralized its HR processes, improving the employee experience and the efficiency of HR teams. Key benefits include :
- Optimizing the recruitment process: Job vacancies are advertised on several platforms without the need for re-entry, and the applications received are then centrally accessible to HR and managers. Onboarding tasks, such as the creation and dispatch of contracts and the provision of equipment, are automated, enabling new hires to be managed more smoothly and rapidly.
- Employee autonomy for administrative tasks: Employees can manage their administrative requests (deposits, certificates, etc.) autonomously via the HR portal, without having to contact HR departments directly by phone, email or verbally. This centralization speeds up the processing of requests and reduces the administrative workload for HR operatives.
- Digitizing time and attendance management: Employees can view their time off, submit requests and track their progress, while managers can validate requests at the click of a button and view their team’s schedules. The elimination of data entry errors guarantees the reliability of data transmitted to the payroll software, to which the SIGMA-HR tool is interfaced. What’s more, the software incorporates the specific features required by UTB to comply with regulations on vacation management in the construction industry.
“Digitizing with SIGMA-HR has transformed our HR practices, enabling us to move from complex manual management to a fluid, centralized approach. This is a major asset for our company in light of current market challenges”
